Delhi University (DU) is set to open its ‘mid-entry’ portal today at 5 p.m., offering students another opportunity to register for undergraduate (UG) courses. The portal will remain open for 48 hours, allowing fresh registrations and offering a second chance to students who were disqualified earlier due to discrepancies. These applicants will also be considered for the third merit list, which is scheduled to be released on September 11.
Anand Sonkar, Joint Dean of Admissions at DU, explained that the mid-entry admissions initiative is designed to accommodate students who may have missed the initial admission process for various reasons. “While not every course and department might have vacancies, there are still seats available at the university. The vacant seat list will be released on the students’ dashboard on Saturday itself, and students registering afresh can choose their preferences accordingly,” said Sonkar.
He also noted that reserved category seats tend to have more vacancies compared to unreserved categories, a trend seen in previous years. The mid-entry applications will close at 4:59 p.m. on Monday, September 9.
Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions at DU, added that students who were rejected in the earlier phases of the admission process will also have the opportunity to apply through this mid-entry window. “Students who got rejected in Phase I or II due to various reasons will be able to apply again and rectify their preferences based on the available seats, which will also be displayed on Saturday,” said Gandhi.
This is the third consecutive year that DU has offered the mid-entry option in the middle of the admission process, reflecting the university’s ongoing efforts to accommodate students who missed earlier rounds of admissions.
Merit Lists and Supernumerary Quotas
The third merit list for the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) will be released on September 11, alongside the second merit list for supernumerary quotas. Students who receive seat allocations will have until September 13 to accept their seats and until September 15 to complete fee payments.
On September 3, DU had already released the first list of seat allocations for supernumerary quotas, including performance-based programs, Children/Widows of Personnel of the Armed Forces (CW), Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA), sports quotas, and seats reserved for wards of university staff. Additionally, upgraded allocations, which allow students to change their college or course based on availability, were also released on the same day.
The payment portal for students allocated seats under the supernumerary quotas closed on Friday, and officials have reported a smooth process throughout.
Smooth Admission Process This Year
According to officials from DU’s admission branch, the 2024 admission process has been the smoothest in recent years. With over 100,000 applications, the university only received a few dozen grievances, which were promptly addressed. “This has been a good start to the academic session,” said an official.
The academic year for DU began on August 29, marking the beginning of a new chapter for many students.
The mid-entry window provides an important opportunity for those who missed out earlier, with DU continuing its commitment to ensuring inclusivity and flexibility in its admissions process.
