SRK Threat Case: Raipur Lawyer Arrested Over Rs 50 Lakh Extortion Call

In a shocking turn of events, a lawyer from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, was arrested for allegedly threatening Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and demanding a hefty sum of Rs 50 lakh. Mohammad Faizan Khan, the accused, reportedly made the extortion call to Khan last week, which led to a swift investigation by the Mumbai Police.

According to police reports, Khan received the threat call from Faizan, who demanded Rs 50 lakh in exchange for not causing harm to the actor. However, in a bizarre twist, Faizan later claimed that the mobile phone used to make the threat call had been stolen. This claim of theft came after Faizan filed a police complaint on November 2, 2024, about his mobile phone being stolen. Despite this, when Faizan failed to appear before the Mumbai Police for questioning, authorities took immediate action and arrested him.

A case was subsequently registered against Faizan Khan under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The arrest has drawn attention due to the severity of the threat and the high-profile nature of the victim, Shah Rukh Khan.

Previous Threats Against Shah Rukh Khan

This extortion threat comes as a troubling reminder of the ongoing threats faced by Shah Rukh Khan. The actor, who has been at the peak of his career in recent years with the massive successes of Pathaan and Jawan, has been the target of multiple threats. Last October, just after the release of Pathaan, Khan received a death threat that resulted in an increased security detail.

In response to the threat, Mumbai Police upgraded Khan’s security status to Y+ protection, a high-security protocol that ensures he is accompanied by a team of six armed personnel at all times, compared to the previous two-person security detail. This upgrade was seen as a direct response to the growing number of threats Khan has received in recent years, underlining the security risks that many prominent Bollywood figures face in the wake of rising public attention and controversies.

Rising Threats in Bollywood: Salman Khan Targeted Too

The threat to Shah Rukh Khan also comes amid a wave of similar incidents involving other Bollywood celebrities. Just last week, a 32-year-old man from Rajasthan was arrested in Karnataka for issuing a death threat to Khan’s contemporary, Salman Khan. This threat followed a chilling ultimatum from jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who demanded Salman Khan publicly apologize at a temple for the 1998 blackbuck poaching incident or face consequences.

Bishnoi, who is believed to have a long-standing animosity with Salman Khan, also threatened to extort Rs 5 crore from the actor. The threat was seen as part of a larger pattern of intimidation tactics used by organized criminal groups targeting high-profile figures in the entertainment industry.

In both cases, the Bollywood stars have been subjected to significant media attention, and their security measures have been a topic of public discussion. These incidents have sparked debates about the safety of celebrities in India and the extent to which they should be protected by law enforcement agencies.

Law Enforcement and Public Safety Concerns

The recent wave of threats against celebrities highlights serious concerns regarding public safety and the challenges faced by law enforcement in preventing such incidents. While the arrests of the accused in both the Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan cases have been swift, the growing trend of threats and extortion calls is alarming for the safety of public figures.

In the case of Faizan Khan, the police are now investigating the lawyer’s motive and how he managed to make the threatening call despite his claim of a stolen phone. Authorities are working to determine whether this was a random incident or part of a larger network of individuals targeting celebrities.

Experts have called for more robust security measures for high-profile personalities and more stringent laws to deal with extortion and criminal intimidation, especially when involving such dangerous threats.

As investigations continue into the Raipur lawyer’s involvement in the threat case, Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan remain at the center of discussions on security and public safety in India. Fans and industry insiders alike are hoping for swift justice and stronger measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
