OnePlus has officially begun rolling out its highly anticipated Android 15-powered OxygenOS 15 update to the OnePlus 12R, following its successful release on the flagship OnePlus 12. The Chinese smartphone maker confirmed the launch of this update through a Community blog post, noting that Indian, European, and Global versions of the OnePlus 12R will be the first to receive OxygenOS 15. North American OnePlus 12R models are expected to get the update later this week.

The OxygenOS 15 update brings a host of new features and optimizations to improve performance, usability, and security. Among the standout features are Google’s gesture-driven “Circle to Search” feature, exclusive to select devices, and various artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities powered by Google Gemini, promising a more seamless and interactive user experience.

OxygenOS 15: Rollout timeline

While the stable version of OxygenOS 15 is currently rolling out for the OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R, OnePlus has outlined a release timeline for other models through an Open Beta program, allowing users of additional devices to access the update in the coming months:

  • November: OnePlus Open, OnePlus Pad 2
  • December: OnePlus 11, OnePlus 11R, OnePlus Nord 4, OnePlus Nord CE 4, OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite, OnePlus Pad
  • January: OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus 10T, OnePlus Nord 3
  • February: OnePlus 10R, OnePlus Nord CE 3

With this staggered approach, OnePlus aims to ensure a stable rollout while giving users an opportunity to preview and test the new features through the Open Beta program before the official release.

OxygenOS 15: What’s new

The OxygenOS 15 update introduces various new AI-powered tools and enhancements that improve everything from daily usability to the user experience. Leveraging Google’s advanced Gemini AI model, the update includes features like:

  • Intelligent Search: A new search tool for more efficiently locating files, documents, and notes on the device.
  • AI Notes: Provides writing assistance, making it easier for users to organize thoughts and draft notes.
  • AI Reply: An upgraded, responsive messaging assistant that offers quick replies based on context.

In addition to AI-driven utilities, photography enthusiasts will appreciate the advanced image processing tools in OxygenOS 15, such as:

  • AI Detail Boost: Enhances image quality by upscaling details, making photos appear sharper.
  • AI Unblur: Corrects blurry images, improving clarity.
  • AI Reflection Eraser: Reduces or removes unwanted reflections in photos, helping users capture cleaner images.

Improved file sharing and UI enhancements

OxygenOS 15 makes file sharing more convenient by introducing the “Share with iPhone” feature, allowing users to share documents, photos, and videos directly with iPhone users. This feature aims to bridge the gap between OnePlus and Apple devices, offering smoother and more reliable cross-platform file transfers.

The update also brings a refined visual design and smoother animations. With enhanced parallel processing, app transitions are faster and smoother, making multitasking more responsive. Updated icons and interface improvements in the quick settings and notification bar give OxygenOS 15 a fresh and modern look, while the new design increases readability and accessibility.

Additionally, OnePlus has managed to reduce system storage usage by up to 20%, a feature that will be especially beneficial for users of the upcoming OnePlus 13 model. This reduction aims to give users more usable storage space and optimize the overall efficiency of the device.

Enhanced security features

OxygenOS 15 prioritizes user security, integrating advanced security tools designed to protect user data and prevent unauthorized access. Two key features in this area include:

  • Theft Detection Lock: Automatically locks the device if it detects suspicious activity, protecting personal data.
  • Remote Lock: Allows users to remotely lock their device if it’s lost or stolen, ensuring that sensitive information remains safe.

These new security measures are built on Android 15’s enhanced security framework, providing users with peace of mind and greater control over their devices in potentially risky situations.

The road ahead for oxygenOS 15

OxygenOS 15 marks a significant update in OnePlus’s software evolution, combining Google’s latest AI advancements with performance and security improvements. With features tailored for both everyday use and specific needs, such as enhanced photo editing and robust security, the update aims to enrich the user experience across OnePlus’s latest models.

As the rollout progresses, OnePlus users worldwide can look forward to a more intuitive, efficient, and secure experience on their devices. The update’s combination of functionality, enhanced visuals, and practical AI tools reaffirms OnePlus’s commitment to providing users with cutting-edge technology in a user-friendly interface. The next few months will be pivotal as the company gathers user feedback and continues to fine-tune OxygenOS 15 across various models, ensuring a stable and satisfying experience for its global user base.
