Top 10 central universities in india: Admission process and key details

As board examinations approach across the country, students are contemplating their future career paths. For those aspiring to pursue higher education in some of India’s top central universities, it is essential to understand the admission process.

Following the board exams, students will make their career choices based on their results. The common University entrance test for undergraduates (CUET-UG) is being conducted nationwide, serving as the gateway for admission into 45 central and 38 state universities. Additionally, CUET-UG scores enable entry into 32 deemed universities and approximately 125 private universities. Below, we explore some of the leading central universities that admit students based on CUET-UG scores. These institutions are located in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

Aligarh muslim university (AMU), aligarh

AMU is a prestigious central university, ranked 9th in the NIRF-2024 rankings. It comprises faculties in agriculture, arts, theology, commerce, life sciences, law, and international studies. The university houses over 117 departments, offering 59 undergraduate and 10 diploma courses. Admission to 15 of these courses is based on CUET-UG scores. Established in 1875, AMU provides self-financed courses, with semester fees ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹40,000.

Banaras hindu university (BHU), varanasi

BHU boasts 13 faculties with more than 100 departments, offering courses such as BA (Hons) Social Sciences, BSc (Hons), and BTech Food Technology. Admission after the 12th standard is based on CUET-UG scores. Established in 1916, BHU charges a three-year BA (Hons) Social Sciences fee of ₹11,892.

Babasaheb bhimrao ambedkar university (BBAU),lucknow

BBAU has 18 departments, including information technology, education, legal studies, media and communication, and pharmaceutical sciences. Courses such as BTech, BBA, BSc, MA, and PhD are available through CUET-UG. Established in 1996, the BTech programme costs approximately ₹4.4 lakh for four years, covering five specialisations.

Allahabad university

This institution offers courses in Arts, science, commerce, and law, including history, Journalism, music, and sociology. Established in 1887, allahabad university’s annual BA fee ranges from ₹13,333 to ₹20,000, with some specialisations reaching up to ₹1,00,000 per annum.

Central university of south bihar (CUSB), gaya

CUSB provides courses in economics, life sciences, health sciences, and social sciences. Undergraduate options include BA LLB (Hons), BABEd, and BScBEd. Established in 2009, the five-year BA LLB (Hons) programme costs approximately ₹1.42 lakh, covering tuition, hostel, and additional fees.

Mahatma gandhi central university, motihari

This university includes departments in commerce, education, and Life Sciences, offering BCom, BTech, and BAJMC courses through CUET-UG. Established in 2016, the BTech fee is ₹30,218, while the BCom and BJMC programmes cost ₹9,218 each.

Indira gandhi national tribal university (IGNTU),amarkantak

IGNTU has 13 faculties and 37 departments, offering UG, masters, and PhD programmes. Established in 2007, fees range from ₹10,200 to ₹15,150 for a BA and ₹44,600 for a Diploma in pharmacy. Hostel charges are ₹2,750 per annum for existing students and ₹3,250 for new entrants.

Dr. Harisingh gour vishwavidyalaya, sagar

With 11 faculties covering anthropology, business management, chemistry, and computer Applications, this university admits students based on CUET-UG scores. Established in 1946, the BPharm course (four years) costs ₹33,620, while MA and MSc programmes (two years) cost ₹4,800 each.

Guru ghasidas university (GGU), bilaspur

GGU has 11 departments covering english, journalism, social work, chemistry, and engineering. Established in 2009, MSc fees range from ₹11,500 to ₹27,700 per year, while the BCA programme’s first-year fee is ₹68,350. The MCom programme charges ₹10,000 annually.

Central university of rajasthan, ajmer

This university provides undergraduate courses such as Integrated MSc, chemistry, linguistics, and engineering through 12 schools and 32 departments. Established in 2009, the one-time BSc fee is ₹3,715, the MSc chemistry tuition fee is ₹10,000, and the integrated BSc-MSc biotechnology course costs ₹29,600.

Conclusion

These central universities offer excellent academic programmes and research opportunities, with admission primarily determined by CUET-UG scores. Prospective students should carefully consider course options, fees, and faculty strengths when making their selection.
