Nintendo switch 2 pre-orders available now at UK retailer – but you’ll have to be quick
In what will surely be seen as a rare stroke of luck for British gamers, pre-orders for the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 are currently available through a major UK retailer – but, as ever, they are unlikely to last long.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for its global launch on 5 June, and demand for the console has been relentless from the moment pre-orders first opened. Unfortunately for eager fans, stock has typically evaporated within minutes at every retailer offering the console, leaving many empty-handed. This frenzied demand looks set to continue well into the year, with no reliable pattern or advance notice of restocks, meaning those keen to get their hands on the new console must remain ever-vigilant.
In a fortunate development, one of our readers, Mark Matthews, has been monitoring the situation closely and has tipped us off that, as of the time of writing, online retailer Very is offering the Nintendo Switch 2, along with a number of bundled packages. While other major outlets, including Nintendo’s official UK store, appear to have no stock currently available, Very has managed to secure some inventory and is offering it through a variety of bundles, albeit unofficial ones.
Shoppers will be disappointed to learn that the console cannot currently be purchased on its own, nor is it available as a simple package with Mario Kart World alone. Instead, Very is offering more premium bundles, which, while pricier, do include some attractive extras:
- Nintendo switch 2 + mario kart world + zelda: tears of the kingdom Nintendo Switch 2 edition – £494
- Nintendo switch 2 + mario kart world + samsung micro SD card – £479
- Nintendo switch 2 + mario kart world + switch 2 camera – £479
Though undeniably costly, these bundles do offer fair value for those willing and able to make the investment. The inclusion of Tears Of The Kingdom, one of Nintendo’s most acclaimed titles, alongside practical accessories such as an additional SD card or the new Switch 2 Camera, makes these bundles more appealing for dedicated gamers who plan to make the most of the new console’s capabilities.
It is perhaps the steep prices that have allowed these bundles to remain available for more than an hour after they were first spotted. However, given the current state of demand, they are unlikely to linger for much longer. Should the stock have disappeared by the time you read this, we can only apologise for raising your hopes.
Uncertainty surrounds future UK stock of Nintendo switch 2
Predicting the availability of newly launched consoles is always something of a guessing game, but the circumstances surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 are even more complex than usual. The ongoing situation with tariffs in the United States has had an indirect impact on the global market, including the UK.
As Nintendo has previously acknowledged, tariffs on a range of goods – including non-luxury items such as food – mean that many American consumers may find themselves with less disposable income to spend on leisure products such as video games this year. This could, in theory, reduce global demand slightly, but given the scale of enthusiasm surrounding the Switch 2, such an effect may be minimal.
For those unwilling to wait, pre-orders are frequently popping up on platforms such as eBay. However, buyers are urged to exercise caution, as many listings are speculative, with sellers not yet in possession of the actual console. Not to mention, these listings often come with heavily inflated prices that far exceed retail value.
If all goes according to plan, Nintendo should have more stock available in the UK by Christmas. Yet, paradoxically, the more popular the console proves to be, the more difficult it will likely remain to purchase one through conventional channels.
For now, patience and persistence remain the only real strategies for British fans hoping to secure their Nintendo Switch 2.
