Canada’s Victoria Mboko progressed in the Miami Open women’s doubles, while Leylah Fernandez suffered an early exit in the singles competition.
Mboko Through in Doubles
Mboko, alongside Russia’s Mirra Andreeva, secured a straight-sets victory over Australia’s Ellen Perez and the Netherlands’ Demi Schuurs, winning 7-6 (7), 6-3 in the Round of 32.
The win sends the pair into the Round of 16, where they will face Australia’s Storm Hunter and American Jessica Pegula.
Potential Singles Clash
Interestingly, Mboko and Andreeva are also set to meet in the singles Round of 16, setting up an unusual scenario where teammates become opponents.
Fernandez Knocked Out
Earlier in the day, Canadian star Leylah Fernandez was defeated by Jessica Pegula in the singles Round of 32. Pegula dominated the match, winning 6-2, 6-2 to advance comfortably.
Fernandez later featured in doubles action alongside Venus Williams, competing in their own Round of 32 match.
Auger-Aliassime in Action
In the men’s draw, Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime is scheduled to face France’s Terence Atmane in the Round of 32.
The Miami Open continues to deliver mixed fortunes for Canadian players, with strong doubles performances contrasting with early singles exits.
