Leonid Radvinsky, the billionaire owner of OnlyFans, has died at the age of 43 following a long battle with cancer, the company has confirmed.

Tech Entrepreneur Behind OnlyFans Boom

Radvinsky, who was born in Ukraine and raised in Chicago, acquired OnlyFans in 2018 from its UK-based founders.

Under his ownership, the platform experienced rapid growth, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, transforming it into a global subscription-based content platform.

Rise of a Digital Giant

Founded in 2016, OnlyFans allows creators to share content with subscribers for a fee, taking a 20% commission on earnings.

While the platform hosts a range of content including fitness and lifestyle material, it is widely known for adult content and its direct creator-to-fan monetisation model.

By 2024, the company had:

  • Generated $1.4bn in revenue
  • Processed more than $7bn in transactions
  • Reached over 377 million users
  • Supported 4.6 million creators

Radvinsky’s success saw him join the ranks of global billionaires, with an estimated net worth of $4.7bn.

Scrutiny and Controversy

The platform’s rapid expansion also brought regulatory and legal challenges.

OnlyFans faced scrutiny over age verification processes and illegal content concerns, including a UK investigation by Ofcom, which later issued a fine for inaccurate reporting on safety measures.

In 2021, the company briefly announced plans to ban explicit content before reversing the decision following backlash from users and creators.

Business and Philanthropy

Beyond OnlyFans, Radvinsky invested in technology ventures through his firm Leo.com and supported charitable causes, including cancer research organisations.

He had reportedly been exploring a potential sale of OnlyFans in recent years.

Legacy

Radvinsky’s leadership reshaped the creator economy, helping to redefine how individuals monetise digital content and interact with audiences online.

His death marks the end of a significant chapter for one of the internet’s most influential and controversial platforms.
