Nicole Scherzinger, the lead singer of the iconic girl group The Pussycat Dolls, has opened up about the possibility of a reunion with her former bandmates, following the cancellation of the group’s much-anticipated tour. Founded in 2003, The Pussycat Dolls quickly became a global sensation with chart-topping hits like “Buttons,” “Don’t Cha,” “Stickwitu,” “Jai Ho,” and “When I Grow Up.” However, after disbanding in 2010, fans were left wondering if they would ever see the girls together again.
In 2019, Scherzinger and her bandmates briefly reunited and announced plans for a tour. However, the tour was ultimately scrapped in 2022 due to concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, fans have been left in suspense about the potential of a full-fledged reunion.
In a recent interview with People magazine, Scherzinger was candid about the prospect of rejoining the Pussycat Dolls in the future. She hinted that she wouldn’t rule out the idea of getting back together with the group, saying, “Who knows, I might one day be with the Dolls again.”
The 45-year-old singer, who has achieved great success with her solo career and acting roles, expressed that she’s always looking forward to what’s next. “I definitely am the ‘What’s next?’ girl,” Scherzinger explained. “I’ve always been that way. Even with the Dolls, when we were having a hit, I was like, ‘What’s the next hit? I need to get back in the studio!’”
Despite her forward-thinking mentality, Scherzinger emphasised that she is currently focused on living in the present. “But I am trying to really live in this moment,” she added, reflecting on her recent career milestones.
The musician and actress has been busy with her Broadway debut, portraying the iconic role of Norma Desmond in Sunset Blvd. in the West End, which she later brought to Broadway. Scherzinger’s portrayal of the fading Hollywood star earned her rave reviews and, notably, a Tony nomination. She also won an Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance in the London production.
Looking back on her experience in Sunset Blvd., Scherzinger recently shared an emotional reflection on Instagram, writing, “I believe God has a plan for all of us — a plan and a purpose. I believe you just have to listen to the whispers of your heart and trust him.”
She went on to express how her role as Norma Desmond felt destined, saying, “I see now that this show, and telling Norma’s story, was God’s divine plan for me all along. There was a purpose behind all the patience, pain, and pushbacks that have been scattered amongst the beauty of my life so far. Tonight I fulfil my childhood dream.”
As for the possibility of a reunion with the Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger remains open-minded. “I love my Dolls. I love the Pussycat Dolls. So, I always say never say never,” she said in a statement to the Daily Mail last summer. She continued, “I see them [her former bandmates]. I love keeping up with them on their Instagrams, and everybody is just thriving and looking good while they’re doing it.”
The Pussycat Dolls’ lineup includes Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton, and Kimberly Wyatt. Though they have all pursued various projects individually, Scherzinger’s positive relationship with her former bandmates seems to remain strong.
Scherzinger’s statement about a potential reunion has reignited hopes among fans that the band could one day return to the stage, even if it’s in a different form than originally planned. However, with Scherzinger’s current focus on her Broadway career and other ventures, any reunion may be some time away.
For now, fans will have to wait and see if the allure of nostalgia and the powerful chemistry that once defined the Pussycat Dolls will bring them together again. While Scherzinger’s musical journey continues to evolve, her fondness for the Pussycat Dolls and the group’s legacy remains clear.
