Rangers produced a dominant display at Ibrox to defeat Aberdeen 4-1 and maintain their Scottish Premiership title push, staying within three points of league leaders Hearts.
Goals from Tochi Chukwuani, Mikey Moore, Nicolas Raskin and captain James Tavernier secured a convincing victory for the hosts, while Aberdeen’s struggles near the bottom of the table deepened.
Rangers Take Control
After a largely controlled but goalless opening half hour, Rangers found the breakthrough in the 35th minute. Following a well-worked move, Chukwuani reacted quickest to convert from close range after Aberdeen goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov had initially denied Mikey Moore.
The goal reflected Rangers’ dominance in possession and attacking intent, as they gradually wore down a disciplined Aberdeen defence.
Quickfire Second-Half Action
Rangers doubled their lead just three minutes into the second half. Ryan Naderi drove forward before picking out Moore, who calmly slotted a low finish into the far corner.
Aberdeen responded almost immediately, capitalising on a defensive lapse. Afeez Aremu’s incisive pass released Dennis Geiger, who finished neatly past Jack Butland to briefly reduce the deficit.
Raskin Restores Control
Any hopes of an Aberdeen comeback were short-lived. Just after the hour mark, Rangers regained their two-goal cushion when Nicolas Raskin produced a superb volley after a partially cleared free-kick fell kindly to him in the box.
The strike restored Rangers’ authority and effectively ended the contest as a competitive affair.
Tavernier Seals Victory
In stoppage time, captain James Tavernier added further gloss to the scoreline with a precise free-kick, ensuring a comprehensive win and boosting Rangers’ goal difference.
A late effort from substitute Bojan Miovski was ruled out following a VAR review for handball in the build-up, denying Aberdeen any late consolation.
Title Race Intensifies
The victory keeps Rangers firmly in contention for the Scottish Premiership title, just three points behind Hearts with seven matches remaining.
Manager Danny Rohl praised his side’s performance, highlighting their control, quality of goals and ability to handle pressure as the season enters its निर्णining phase.
Aberdeen’s Relegation Concerns Grow
For Aberdeen, the defeat compounds a worrying run of form. With other results going against them, they now sit just three points above the relegation play-off spot.
Manager Stephen Robinson acknowledged his side’s defensive frailties and called for an immediate response, warning that the club is now firmly in a relegation battle.
Conclusion
Rangers delivered when it mattered, combining attacking flair with control to secure an important victory. With momentum building, the title race remains finely poised.
For Aberdeen, however, time is running out to turn their season around, with pressure mounting ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.
