Should an immigrant child born to parents who relocated from another land to the UK be at the mercy of the ongoing immigration skirmishes in the UK, there is the likelihood that the child would be deported.
Born in Britain, it faces the possibility of being uprooted from the only home it knows to foreign territories where none of its kin has ever set foot before.
UK immigration laws are made complex and confused by the case. The child, although born in Britain and holds a British birth certificate, is not automatically entitled to citizenship. It is because their parents, as immigrants, do not have permanent residency or citizenship yet.
Human rights groups and immigrant advocates were enraged, which has propelled the reactions. They claim that expatriating an individual created here from scratch amounts to immorality as well as cruelty. Moreover, many are worried about how safe this kid is, having in mind such a kid is taken away from their relatives and then left in a strange land.
Nevertheless, the Home Office says a child’s immigration status is dependent upon the status of their parents. Rumour has it that before being born, the parents of children are responsible for applying for permanent residence or citizenship, which will, in turn, grant them the right to remain within the UK.
As the Child’s family struggles to remain together amid a case pitting them against the rigid decision by the Home office firm, the end of it all is yet to be seen. We don’t know how it will end. Nevertheless, it looks like we need changes in our immigration laws in the UK to protect the rights of children who are born here.
