Billionaire former Tory Donor Nick Candy to give ‘seven-figure sum’ to reform UK

Billionaire property tycoon Nick Candy has announced his decision to donate a “seven-figure” sum to Reform UK after resigning from the Conservative Party to join Nigel Farage’s team as treasurer. Mr Candy, known for his high-profile business ventures and marriage to pop singer Holly Valance, made the announcement in Westminster on Tuesday, posing for photographs alongside Mr Farage.

The move marks a significant shift in UK political fundraising as Mr Candy, who has previously donated generously to Conservative coffers, commits his financial backing to Reform UK. His appointment as treasurer is expected to commence in the new year, with the party gearing up for May’s local elections. Reform UK, buoyed by recent defections from the Conservative Party, including former minister Andrea Jenkyns, hailed Mr Candy’s addition as a major milestone in its growing influence.

“Seven figures” and ambitions for the future

When asked whether he would personally contribute financially to the party, Mr Candy confirmed his intention to donate a “seven-figure” amount. His decision comes at a time when the party is seeking substantial financial support to expand its campaign efforts nationally. “We need ammunition,” Mr Farage remarked on Tuesday, underscoring the necessity of significant funding to compete on a larger political stage. “We can’t fight big national campaigns without the money.”

The billionaire’s decision to part ways with the Conservative Party highlights growing dissatisfaction among donors. In a statement, Mr Candy cited “broken promises” and a “breach of trust with the wealth creators in our country” as reasons for his departure. Declaring Reform UK as “the future of British politics,” he expressed his determination to raise sufficient funds to enable the party to make a substantial impact in the next general election.

Musk and reform UK: Speculations continue

Adding to the intrigue surrounding Reform UK’s newfound financial momentum, reports have circulated about potential support from tech billionaire Elon Musk. Known for his outspoken views and interest in global politics, Mr Musk was reportedly considering significant financial backing for the party, with some suggesting the sum could reach tens of millions. When questioned about the rumours, Mr Farage maintained that he was unaware of any planned contributions from Mr Musk but added, “If money were offered, we would take it.”

The speculation stems from reports in The Sunday Times, attributed to Conservative Party officials and leading businessmen. While Mr Musk’s involvement remains uncertain, his interest in Mr Candy’s appointment has fuelled discussions about Reform UK’s potential to attract high-profile donors.

Reform UK’s rising profile

The addition of Nick Candy to Reform UK’s leadership team signals a strategic push to establish the party as a formidable force in British politics. Mr Farage described the billionaire’s appointment as a “coup,” highlighting the party’s trajectory as the fastest-growing movement in the political landscape. The party’s appeal has been bolstered by prominent backers, including Mr Candy’s wife, Holly Valance. The Australian-British actress and singer has been a visible supporter, having been photographed with Mr Farage and Donald Trump at the Mar-a-Lago resort in 2022.

Mr Candy’s resignation from the Conservative Party and subsequent support for Reform UK reflect broader discontent among traditional Conservative donors. His public criticism of the government’s handling of economic policies and his call for a renewed focus on supporting wealth creators resonate with Reform UK’s platform of change and accountability.

Building momentum for may and beyond

As Reform UK looks ahead to the local elections in May, Mr Candy’s financial contributions and role as treasurer are expected to significantly enhance the party’s campaign capabilities. His pledge to raise substantial funds aligns with the party’s ambition to challenge the established political order.

In his statement, Mr Candy reiterated his belief in Reform UK’s potential to reshape British politics, stating: “I am pleased to announce that I will now become the treasurer for Reform UK and intend to raise enough funds for them to win the next general election.”

Mr Farage welcomed the billionaire’s commitment, stating, “Nick’s efforts will help Reform UK transform our country.” With Mr Candy’s backing and growing interest from other high-profile figures, Reform UK’s emergence as a credible challenger to traditional parties appears increasingly viable.

Conclusion

Nick Candy’s departure from the Conservative Party and his pledge to donate a substantial sum to Reform UK mark a pivotal moment for the party. As the treasurer-in-waiting, his financial and strategic contributions are set to shape the future of British politics. Combined with ongoing speculation about Elon Musk’s potential involvement, Reform UK is positioning itself as a rising force with the resources and vision to make a significant impact on the political stage.
