NEW DELHI: In a significant move aimed at bolstering India’s transportation infrastructure and boosting regional development, the Narendra Modi government approved eight new railway projects on Friday. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that these projects will enhance logistical efficiency, improve connectivity in previously underserved regions, and support accelerated economic growth.

The newly approved railway projects are set to cover 14 districts across seven states, including Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, and West Bengal. These projects will extend the existing railway network by approximately 900 kilometers and are estimated to cost ₹24,657 crore.
Vaishnaw highlighted that these initiatives will significantly impact the connectivity and economic prospects of the regions they serve. “PM Modi approved 8 big railway projects during the cabinet meeting. From these, aspirational districts and tribal-dominated constituencies will gain significant developmental benefits,” Vaishnaw said.

- Corridor Development in Odisha: Among the eight projects, three are focused on connecting southern and western Odisha with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This new corridor will link Asansol in West Bengal to Warangal in Telangana, facilitating enhanced economic, tourism, and employment opportunities. Additionally, the projects will improve connectivity to ports on the eastern coast and generate employment in tribal areas.
