Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon denounced the recent ruling of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the reserved seats issue, characterizing it as an example of a biased political tactic.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Memon voiced his astonishment at the finding, which overturned the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to give the ruling coalition these seats and declared that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was entitled to reserved seats.
He underlined the importance of following the law rather than one’s own prejudices and said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would evaluate the ruling with legal professionals.
Along with this, Memon bemoaned the PPP’s historical suffering at the hands of court rulings, citing the contentious trial of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari’s protracted detention without charge.
He accused the PTI and its leader Imran Khan of acting in an unethical and undemocratic manner, and he highlighted apparent favoritism towards the PTI in the judiciary and ECP rulings, which he denounced as prejudiced.
Memon also called Imran Khan unjust and accused former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar of showing prejudice towards Imran Khan.
“While Saqib Nisar gave the title of Sadiq and Amin to the most famous lier in the world, he targeted Imran Khan’s opponents,” Memon said accusing Saqib Nisar of ‘creating injustice’ in the country through his position.
Then he went on to criticize PTI’s treatment, pointing out that Imran Khan was receiving special treatment and that the party wasn’t even involved in the most recent case.
The ruling concerned the Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) appeal against the PHC’s ruling, which maintained the ECP’s refusal to grant PTI-backed legislators special seats. The problem started after the polls on February 8, when a large number of PTI-backed independent candidates joined SIC in response to a ruling by CJP Qazi Faez Isa that stripped PTI of its election emblem.
