Disney has finally lifted the lid on “Frozen 3,” confirming the animated sequel will arrive in theatres on November 24, 2027 — continuing the franchise’s tradition of Thanksgiving release dates.
The film returns audiences to the fictional kingdom of Arendelle, with the original voice cast reprising their roles: Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff and Josh Gad as Olaf.
What We Know So Far
Disney is keeping the plot largely under wraps, but a handful of details have emerged. Anna and Kristoff will get married in the new film, a new villain will be introduced, and Olaf — the franchise’s beloved snowman — is set to gain a love interest named Samantha.
Concept art for the film, created by Britney Lee, first surfaced back in August 2024, depicting Elsa astride a white horse and Anna on a brown stag, offering an early hint at the visual direction of the story.
Behind the Scenes
Kristen Bell spoke to Variety in October 2025 about the film entering production, though she said at the time she hadn’t yet heard any of the music. She also pushed back on reports suggesting she would be paid $60 million to reprise the role of Anna, though she stopped short of revealing her actual salary.
Married songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, who wrote the music for the first two “Frozen” films, are returning to compose for both this installment and a planned fourth film. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger previously confirmed that a “Frozen 4” is already in development, though details remain scarce.
A Billion-Dollar Franchise
The original “Frozen,” released in 2013, was co-directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, who also wrote the screenplay. Loosely inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen,” the film became a global phenomenon, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide and winning two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature. Buck and Lee returned to direct the 2019 sequel, “Frozen II,” which went on to earn $1.45 billion at the box office.
With two of the highest-grossing animated films in history behind it, “Frozen 3” carries considerable weight heading into its 2027 release.
