Terrifier 4 confirmed: The gruesome sequel that will finally answer fans’ biggest question

Horror fans, brace yourselves—Terrifier 4 is officially in the works. The next instalment in the blood-soaked franchise promises to be the most epic, horrifying, and emotionally charged conclusion yet.

The rise of art the clown

Damien Leone’s brutal horror saga began with The 9th Circle (2008), a short film that introduced the terrifying art the clown. Since then, the malevolent villain has tormented audiences in All Hallows’ Eve (2013), before starring in the standalone Terrifier (2016) and its now-legendary 2022 sequel, Terrifier 2. The latter made headlines worldwide due to its grotesque violence, which reportedly caused cinemagoers to vomit and faint during screenings.

Leone pushed the boundaries even further with Terrifier 3, released in 2023 with a Christmas-themed twist. The film smashed franchise records, grossing over $89 million (£71 million) at the global box office. Its unrelenting brutality saw some viewers walk out of its London premiere, while others were left physically ill by its shocking violence.

Leone confirms terrifier 4

Following months of speculation, Leone has now officially confirmed that Terrifier 4 is in development. The filmmaker shared the news on Instagram with a birthday post featuring the front page of the latest film’s script—naturally splattered with blood.

“Thank you all so much for the amazing birthday wishes. I’m truly blessed to know so many wonderful human beings,” Leone wrote. “I might as well take advantage of this day and give all of the Terrifier fans a little present in return – the script for Terrifier 4 is underway and it is shaping up to be the most epic, horrifying, thrilling, emotional and satisfying conclusion to the Terrifier saga.

“I’ve personally never been so excited to see one of my own scripts translate to the screen like this one.”

A final chapter – And a long-awaited answer

While Leone’s statement suggests that Terrifier 4 may be the final chapter in the franchise, he also teased that it will finally answer the biggest question horror fans have been asking for years—who, or what, is art the clown?

Since his debut, the nightmarish villain—portrayed by David Howard Thornton—has remained an enigma. Unlike traditional horror antagonists, Art possesses supernatural powers, yet his origins and motives have remained a mystery. Throughout the films, brief glimpses of a hellish underworld beneath the Miles County fairground have hinted at a deeper lore, but fans have yet to receive any concrete explanations.

What we know so far

The shocking ending of Terrifier 3 left audiences with even more questions. The film saw Sienna (Lauren LaVera) fatally wound Art using her enchanted sword, while her niece Gabbie (Antonella Rose) vanished into the abyss. As Sienna vowed to find her, the film hinted at an even darker, more twisted journey ahead.

With Terrifier 4 set to be the grand finale, it’s expected that Leone will finally reveal Art’s true nature—whether he is a demonic entity, an immortal force of chaos, or something even more sinister.

A legacy of horror

The Terrifier series has become one of the most infamous modern horror franchises. Critics have described Terrifier 3 as “genuinely gruesome,” “deliciously torturous,” and “chaotic and blood-soaked.” The film currently holds a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Terrifier 2 at 87% and Terrifier at 62%.

With its over-the-top gore, relentless tension, and unforgettable villain, Terrifier 4 has a lot to live up to. But if Leone’s words are anything to go by, horror fans can expect a finale that is every bit as horrifying, shocking, and stomach-churning as its predecessors—if not more.

Get ready for another terrifying ride into the twisted world of art the clown.
