Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League after a narrow 1–0 win over Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium, with Eberechi Eze once again proving decisive in a tight, nervy contest.
The only goal arrived early in the match when Arsenal’s well-worked short-corner routine caused confusion in Newcastle’s defence. Eze reacted fastest inside the box, finishing clinically to give the home side an advantage they would protect for the remainder of the game.
Despite falling behind, Newcastle had more possession and created several dangerous moments, but struggled to convert pressure into clear chances. Arsenal, meanwhile, remained compact and disciplined defensively, especially in a tense final phase where the visitors pushed hard for an equaliser.
One of Newcastle’s best opportunities came late on when Yoane Wissa missed a clear chance, volleying over from close range. Arsenal also had openings to extend their lead on the counterattack but lacked composure in the final third.
Manager Mikel Arteta praised his side’s defensive discipline after the match, while also admitting that Arsenal need more control in possession if they are to sustain their title challenge. Captain Martin Ødegaard highlighted the importance of set-piece work, which directly contributed to the winning goal.
The result puts Arsenal back on top of the Premier League table, intensifying the title race with Manchester City, who remain close behind with a game in hand.
For Newcastle, it was another frustrating defeat in a run of poor form, despite periods where they matched Arsenal physically and territorially.
