M.otherwell FC dealt a major blow to Rangers FC’s title hopes with a dramatic 3–2 victory in a thrilling Scottish Premiership clash at Ibrox.
The visitors made a flying start, taking control inside the opening 25 minutes. Lukas Fadinger opened the scoring after a well-worked move, before Emmanuel Longelo doubled the lead with a composed first-time finish, leaving Rangers stunned on home turf.
Trailing 2–0 at half-time, Rangers responded strongly after the break. Youssef Chermiti pulled one back early in the second half, and Nicolas Raskin levelled the match with 20 minutes remaining, sparking hopes of a comeback in front of nearly 51,000 fans at Ibrox.
However, just as Rangers looked set to complete the turnaround, Motherwell struck decisively on the counter-attack. Longelo grabbed his second goal of the match in the 90th minute, his effort taking a deflection before beating goalkeeper Jack Butland and sealing a famous victory.
The defeat leaves Rangers unable to capitalise on dropped points elsewhere in the title race, keeping them behind leaders Heart of Midlothian and city rivals Celtic FC.
For Motherwell, the win represents a significant boost to their push for European qualification. After a difficult run of form, their energetic and fearless first-half performance proved decisive, while their resilience ensured they held firm under intense second-half pressure.
Rangers manager Danny Rohl praised his side’s reaction after the break but admitted the result was difficult to accept, while Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou highlighted his team’s composure in a high-pressure atmosphere.
With just a few matches remaining in the season, the result adds further drama to an already tight Scottish Premiership title race.
