Samsung’s Galaxy S-series has long been recognised as the flagship line, showcasing the best of the brand’s innovation. While the Galaxy S24 series currently holds the crown for the latest in smartphone technology, the Galaxy S23 series still has many customers intrigued, especially during the ongoing festive season. The Samsung Galaxy S23 5G and Galaxy S23 FE 5G, both of which are now heavily discounted, are proving to be popular choices among shoppers.

The Galaxy S23 5G, priced under Rs 50,000, sits comfortably in the flagship territory, while the Galaxy S23 FE, at under Rs 40,000, offers great value for those who seek premium features on a budget. While both smartphones offer impressive specifications, selecting the right one depends on your needs and preferences. Let’s dive deeper into both models and see which one comes out on top.

Price in India: Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S23 FE 5G

The Samsung Galaxy S23 5G is currently priced starting at Rs 39,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The higher-end variant with 256GB storage is available for Rs 44,999. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE 5G starts at Rs 29,999 for the same 8GB RAM and 128GB storage option, with the 256GB variant priced at Rs 32,999 during festive sales.

Design: Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S23 FE 5G

In terms of design, both models feature a sleek, flat-frame look, which is characteristic of recent Samsung designs. The Galaxy S23 5G sports an armour aluminium frame and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back. The device is also IP68-rated, meaning it is resistant to dust and can withstand water submersion for up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes. It is available in four colours: Phantom Black, Green, Cream, and Lavender.

The Galaxy S23 FE 5G follows a similar design approach but uses Gorilla Glass 5 for protection. It also comes with an IP68 rating and offers a choice of Mint, Graphite, and Purple colours. The S23 5G is lighter and more compact, measuring 146.3 x 70.9 x 7.6mm and weighing 168g, while the S23 FE is slightly larger and heavier at 158.0 x 76.5 x 8.2mm and 209g.

Display: Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S23 FE 5G

The Samsung Galaxy S23 5G boasts a 6.1-inch Full HD+ Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. It features a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to 1,750 nits of peak brightness, making it an excellent choice for vibrant visuals and smooth scrolling. The S23 FE, on the other hand, has a slightly larger 6.4-inch FHD+ Infinity-O Dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels. While it still offers a 120Hz refresh rate, its peak brightness is slightly lower at 1,450 nits.

Performance and OS: Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S23 FE 5G

Under the hood, the Galaxy S23 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is tailored for Galaxy devices. It delivers superior performance with the help of an Adreno 740 GPU. The device also packs 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. In contrast, the Galaxy S23 FE 5G runs on Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2200 chipset with a clock speed of up to 2.8GHz and an Xclipse 920 GPU. Both models come with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of storage, offering great performance but the S23 5G has a slight edge in terms of raw power.

Both devices run on Android 14 and come with a promise of three years of OS upgrades and four years of security updates.

Cameras: Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S23 FE 5G

The camera department is where both phones shine. The Galaxy S23 5G features a triple-camera setup: a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS support, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with a 120-degree field of view, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. It also supports 8K video recording. The front camera is a 12-megapixel sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus.

The S23 FE 5G also offers a triple-camera setup, featuring a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 123-degree field of view, and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The front camera on the FE variant is a 10-megapixel sensor, suitable for sharp selfies.

Battery: Galaxy S23 5G vs Galaxy S23 FE 5G

The Galaxy S23 5G comes with a 3,900mAh battery, offering 25W wired fast charging. It also supports Qi wireless charging and wireless power share. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S23 FE has a larger 4,500mAh battery with the same 25W wired charging support, making it a better option for users who need longer battery life.

Conclusion: Which is Better?

Both the Samsung Galaxy S23 5G and Galaxy S23 FE 5G come with flagship-grade specifications, but which one is better depends on your priorities. If you want a more compact, premium-feeling device with slightly better performance and camera quality, the Galaxy S23 5G is the better choice. However, if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option with a larger battery and almost all the features of the Galaxy S23 5G, the Galaxy S23 FE 5G offers fantastic value for money. Ultimately, the decision boils down to how much you’re willing to spend and which features matter most to you.
