Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for various development projects worth more than Rs 38,000 crore during his visit to Mumbai on Thursday. These initiatives aim to boost the city’s infrastructure, enhance urban transportation, and strengthen healthcare services, marking a significant step forward in the transformation of Mumbai.
Among the most anticipated projects is the inauguration of the Mumbai Metro Rail Lines 2A and 7, collectively worth around Rs 12,600 crore. The 18.6 km-long Line 2A will connect suburban Dahisar (East) to DN Nagar (Yellow Line), while the 16.5 km-long Line 7 will link Andheri (East) with Dahisar (East). These lines are expected to ease the burden on the city’s roads, providing commuters with a faster and more convenient travel option across key locations in Mumbai. Notably, the foundation stones for these metro lines were laid by PM Modi in 2015, and their completion now marks a milestone in Mumbai’s urban mobility journey. During his visit, the prime minister will also take a ride on the Mumbai Metro, showcasing the improved infrastructure in action.
In addition to the metro lines, Modi will lay the foundation stones for seven major sewage treatment plants, a vital road concretization project, and the ambitious redevelopment of the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The foundation stone laying ceremony will be held at the MMRDA grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), an important business hub in Mumbai.
The seven sewage treatment plants, which will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 17,200 crore, are crucial for improving Mumbai’s sanitation infrastructure. These plants, located in Malad, Bhandup, Versova, Ghatkopar, Bandra, Dharavi, and Worli, will have a combined capacity of around 2,460 million liters per day (MLD), helping to ensure cleaner water and a healthier environment for the city’s residents.
In the healthcare sector, the prime minister will inaugurate 20 Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana clinics, part of an initiative to provide essential medical services such as health check-ups, medicines, diagnostics, and investigations free of charge. These clinics will bring quality healthcare closer to the people, particularly those in underserved areas.
To further bolster Mumbai’s healthcare infrastructure, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of three hospitals. These include a 360-bed multi-specialty hospital in Bhandup, a 306-bed hospital in Goregaon (West), and a 152-bed maternity home in Oshiwara, all of which are designed to improve access to top-notch medical care for Mumbai’s growing population.
The road infrastructure in Mumbai will also receive a major upgrade with the launch of a Rs 6,100 crore road concretization project. This project aims to convert 400 km of roads in the city to durable concrete, improving driving conditions and reducing traffic congestion.

Another key project during the visit will be the redevelopment of the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Rs 1,800 crore redevelopment project will focus on decongesting the terminus, improving multi-modal integration, and restoring the iconic structure to its former grandeur while modernizing it for future use.
The prime minister will also introduce the MUMBAI 1 mobile app and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), which will simplify public transportation across the city. The app will allow commuters to easily access metro stations using digital payment methods like UPI, and the NCMC card will facilitate contactless transactions across multiple transit systems, including local trains and buses, reducing the need for multiple travel cards or cash.
As part of the PM SVANidhi Yojana, Modi will also initiate the transfer of approved loans to more than one lakh street vendors, furthering his government’s mission to support small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Security measures in Mumbai have been heightened for the prime minister’s visit, with flying activities such as drones, paragliders, and remote-controlled micro-light aircraft restricted in and around BKC. Traffic diversions and road closures have also been implemented to ensure smooth proceedings during the event.
PM Modi’s visit to Mumbai signifies a major push for the city’s development, with large-scale infrastructure and healthcare projects designed to improve the quality of life for millions of residents while modernizing the metropolis for the future.
