Ajay Devgn, known for his intense dedication to action roles, recently shared a shocking revelation about a serious eye injury he suffered on the set of his upcoming film, Singham Again. The injury left the actor temporarily blind, causing him to lose his vision for two to three months. Devgn disclosed this unexpected detail on the popular reality show Bigg Boss 18, hosted by Salman Khan, while promoting his film.

Khan set up the conversation by describing a particular incident on the set, mentioning that a scene involving a stick-wielding antagonist went awry due to mistimed choreography. In Khan’s words, “Ajay mujhe ek shot dikhaya tha, koi lathi leke inko marne aaya, aur uska timing chala gaya tha, toh seedha ankh mein padha,” meaning, “Ajay had shown me a shot, someone had to hit him with a stick, but the timing went wrong, and it hit him directly in the eye.”

Following Khan’s introduction, Devgn recounted the experience, confirming that the injury was severe enough to require surgery. “Vision chala gaya tha 2-3 mahine,” he said, translating to, “I lost my vision for 2-3 months.” This incident, which took place in December 2023, has left fans concerned and appreciative of Devgn’s resilience and commitment to his craft. Fortunately, Devgn’s vision has since fully recovered, and he is set to make a powerful return as Bajirao Singham.

The return of Singham Again and Rohit Shetty’s cop universe

Singam Again is the latest installment in Rohit Shetty’s acclaimed cop universe, a franchise that has won a loyal fanbase with its high-octane action sequences and gripping storylines. Devgn first donned the role of Bajirao Singham in 2011’s Singham, followed by Singham Returns in 2014. Both films were significant hits, establishing Devgn’s character as a symbol of justice and integrity. This third installment promises to uphold the adrenaline-fueled action that has come to define Shetty’s filmmaking style.

With Singham Again, the franchise expands its horizons by bringing back iconic characters from previous films, including Ranveer Singh as Simmba and Akshay Kumar as Sooryavanshi. Alongside Devgn, the ensemble cast includes Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, and Arjun Kapoor. The star-studded lineup has raised fans’ expectations for an explosive cinematic experience, blending nostalgia with fresh energy.

Plot inspired by Ramayana

Shetty has infused Singham Again with themes inspired by the Hindu epic Ramayana, bringing a deeper philosophical undertone to the storyline. The narrative will explore classic good-vs-evil tropes, drawing parallels with the timeless battle between righteousness and corruption. Devgn’s character, Singham, will once again stand as a force for justice, embodying the values of honor, bravery, and integrity.

High stakes and box office clash

As one of the year’s most anticipated Bollywood releases, Singham Again is scheduled to hit theaters on November 1. However, the film faces a major box office clash with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan, which releases on the same day. The competition between these two high-profile films is expected to be intense, with both catering to large, eager fan bases.

While Singham Again appeals to action enthusiasts and fans of the cop universe, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has its own appeal with horror-comedy fans, as the franchise has a strong following since its first installment featuring Akshay Kumar. The overlap in release dates could impact each film’s earnings, though it might also create a surge of excitement for Bollywood cinema as audiences choose between two blockbuster-worthy options.

Ajay Devgn’s dedication to authenticity

This injury is not the first time Devgn has shown his willingness to endure physical challenges for his roles. Known for performing many of his own stunts, he has a history of going the extra mile to make action sequences appear authentic on-screen. Despite the risks, Devgn’s commitment to embodying his character’s physicality is unwavering, something that has won him admiration in Bollywood and among his fans.

Devgn’s fans have expressed relief that he has recovered fully and is back to doing what he does best—delivering high-impact performances that blend drama with action. The incident on the set of Singham Again has added a layer of intrigue and emotional depth to the film’s release, as viewers anticipate watching a project that demanded resilience and strength from its lead actor.

With Singham Again set to release shortly, audiences are not only eager to see Devgn reprise his role as Bajirao Singham but are also drawn to the film’s themes of resilience, justice, and personal triumph. Devgn’s harrowing experience on set and his recovery journey resonate with the very ideals that Singham Again seeks to convey, making the film’s release all the more meaningful.
