Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Part 1 and 2: Release Dates Announced for Diwali 2026, 2027

The much-awaited epic Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is finally set to grace theaters during Diwali in 2026 and 2027. The two-part saga, based on one of India’s most revered epics, has generated tremendous excitement among fans and film enthusiasts alike, promising a grand retelling of the timeless tale of good versus evil. With its release dates now announced and an official poster unveiled, Ramayana is poised to become one of the most significant cinematic events of the decade.

First Look: A Symbolic Poster Unveiled

Producer Namit Malhotra shared the film’s first poster on Instagram, sparking anticipation for what’s sure to be an unforgettable cinematic experience. The poster reveals the title of the film alongside an upward-pointing arrow, symbolizing the divine bow and arrow of Lord Ram. In his post, Malhotra expressed his passion for the project, explaining that bringing Ramayana to the big screen has been a decade-long dream. “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen,” he wrote. He highlighted the team’s dedication to creating an “authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation” that will resonate with audiences worldwide.

The caption also confirmed the release timeline, noting, “Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence… Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027. From our entire Ramayana Family.”

Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram: A Devoted Performance

Pinkvilla recently reported that Ranbir Kapoor has completed nearly 90 percent of his role for Ramayana: Part One. Kapoor has reportedly dedicated substantial time to his portrayal of Lord Ram, immersing himself in the character with intensive preparation. A source revealed that Kapoor’s dedication extended to collaborating closely with the director Nitesh Tiwari and the production team to ensure his portrayal does justice to the revered figure. This level of commitment, combined with the team’s meticulous planning, enabled the film to progress efficiently, finishing most of Kapoor’s scenes ahead of schedule.

Yash as Ravan: A Powerful Antagonist in the Making

Bollywood fans will also see KGF star Yash take on the role of Ravan, adding another layer of excitement to the project. Yash, known for his commanding screen presence, is expected to bring a unique and intense interpretation to the character. He is scheduled to begin filming his part in December 2024 after completing his current project, Toxic, directed by Geethu Mohandas. His portrayal of Ravan is anticipated to provide a formidable counterbalance to Kapoor’s Lord Ram, enhancing the epic’s dramatic depth.

An All-Star Cast and Global Talent Behind the Music

The Ramayana cast is a powerhouse lineup, featuring not only Ranbir Kapoor and Yash but also acclaimed actors like Sunny Deol, Kunal Kapoor, and Sai Pallavi. Each actor brings their unique talent to the film, enriching the retelling of this sacred story. Tiwari, known for Dangal and Chhichhore, is expected to infuse Ramayana with a modern, cinematic touch while remaining true to the epic’s spiritual core.

The filmmakers have also brought in Oscar-winning composers AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer to collaborate on the background score and music. This East-meets-West collaboration is set to deliver a soundscape that bridges cultures and deepens the emotional impact of the film. Rahman, celebrated for his profound and resonant compositions, and Zimmer, known for his intense, cinematic scores, are sure to elevate Ramayana‘s visual spectacle with a soundtrack that mirrors its grandeur.

A Landmark Moment in Indian Cinema

With its ambitious scale, top-tier cast, and unparalleled technical expertise, Ramayana is already being touted as a potential landmark in Indian cinema. The epic tale, adapted multiple times over the years, remains a deeply rooted cultural narrative that has captured the imagination of generations. Tiwari’s vision aims to not only bring this story to a new audience but to present it with a reverence and respect for the original epic’s essence.

Global Appeal and Cultural Significance

Ramayana‘s international appeal is amplified by its globally renowned cast and crew. The story of Ram and Ravan, reflecting universal themes of love, sacrifice, and the triumph of good over evil, is likely to resonate with audiences across different cultures. The presence of Zimmer alongside Rahman points to an approach that aims for a broad global reach, helping the film transcend cultural boundaries.

As the countdown to Diwali 2026 and 2027 begins, excitement is sure to grow. With Ranbir Kapoor’s dedication, Yash’s anticipated portrayal of Ravan, a stellar supporting cast, and the combined musical genius of Rahman and Zimmer, Ramayana has all the ingredients to become an epic celebration of Indian storytelling on the global stage.
