Logina Salah, an Egyptian model with vitiligo, has made history by becoming the first contestant from Egypt to reach the top 30 in the prestigious Miss Universe beauty pageant. The 34-year-old model from Alexandria etched her name into the history books at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, held in Mexico on Sunday. Representing Egypt, Salah stood out among contestants from around the world, making it to the semi-finals and bringing her nation into the spotlight.
On stage, Salah dazzled in multiple outfits, including a striking Cleopatra-inspired costume. The ensemble symbolised the “comeback of Egypt’s powerful legacy of leadership,” as she described it. “For many years, I used to think of my patches (vitiligo) as a source of embarrassment and shame,” Salah shared on Instagram. “Today’s dress is inspired by how I celebrate my patches every day. I see them as colourful and unique, like the patches on this dress. The uneven patches represent how I view myself and my skin as imperfectly perfect.”
Through her participation, Salah has paved the way for greater representation of individuals with skin conditions in modelling and beauty competitions, encouraging others to embrace their uniqueness.
