Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Monday, hailed the newly inaugurated Kashi Vishwanath Dham as a testament to India’s rich culture and ancient history. Speaking during the inauguration of the ₹339 crore redevelopment project in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Modi emphasized that the iconic temple complex offers a blend of spiritual experience and a deep connection to India’s glorious past.

Addressing the gathering after unveiling the revamped Vishwanath Dham, the Prime Minister said, “Vishwanath Dham is a testament to India’s culture and ancient history. It is a testament to the fact that how our ancient values are guiding us towards our future.” He noted that the visit to the holy shrine would not only inspire feelings of faith but also evoke a sense of pride in India’s rich heritage.

“When you come here, you will not see only faith. You will also feel the glory of your past here. You will see how ‘pracheenta’ (ancient) and ‘naventa’ (modern) come alive together,” PM Modi remarked, highlighting the significance of the temple as a bridge between India’s traditions and its forward-looking aspirations. He described the newly constructed complex as more than just a grand architectural marvel but as a symbol of India’s timeless Sanatan culture.

The Prime Minister elaborated on the expansive transformation of the temple complex. “Earlier, the temple area here, which was only three thousand square feet, has now become about 5 lakh square feet. Now 50 to 75 thousand devotees can come to the temple and temple premises.” He underscored that the temple’s reconstruction was aimed at making the holy site more accessible to devotees, including those with disabilities, thus embodying the inclusive spirit of Hinduism.

Modi expressed deep reverence for Kashi, the spiritual heart of India, noting that the completion of Kashi Vishwanath Dham has made the temple and the sacred Ganga river more accessible to all. “Baba Vishwanath belongs to everyone, Maa Ganga belongs to everyone, and with the completion of Kashi Vishwanath Dham, everyone, including the divyangs (persons with disabilities), will be able to easily come to the temple,” he said.

The Kashi Vishwanath Dham project, undertaken by the government, sought to expand and enhance the temple’s premises, allowing for more devotees to visit and experience the sacred site in an unhindered manner. The Prime Minister highlighted the previous constraints, noting how the temple’s premises had once been limited to just 3,000 square feet, causing difficulty in managing large crowds of pilgrims. In contrast, the newly expanded complex now covers 5 lakh square feet, a transformation that allows for 50,000 to 75,000 devotees to visit the temple premises simultaneously.

The project, envisioned as a blend of traditional aesthetics with modern facilities, took into account the growing number of devotees while preserving the temple’s sanctity and spiritual atmosphere. The design integrates accessibility features for divyangs, ensuring that the holy site is welcoming to people from all walks of life.

Before the official inauguration, Prime Minister Modi took the opportunity to personally express his gratitude to the laborers who contributed to the massive reconstruction effort. In a heartwarming gesture, he greeted the workers with flowers, acknowledging their role in making the project a reality. This gesture further reinforced the Prime Minister’s commitment to inclusivity and his belief in honoring the contributions of all sections of society.

In addition to inaugurating the new complex, Modi also performed traditional rituals at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, offering prayers and participating in the religious ceremonies. As part of the event, he also planted a Rudraksha tree in the temple premises, symbolizing peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth.

The Kashi Vishwanath Dham project is expected to not only boost religious tourism but also reinvigorate Varanasi’s status as a spiritual and cultural hub for Hindus worldwide. By improving the infrastructure surrounding the temple, the project aims to provide a seamless experience for pilgrims and tourists while preserving the ancient city’s historic charm.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi lauded the city’s enduring significance, calling Varanasi a beacon of spirituality, faith, and tradition. He affirmed that the redevelopment of Kashi Vishwanath Dham was a reflection of how India continues to respect and celebrate its ancient traditions while forging a path toward modernity.

Through this massive overhaul, Kashi Vishwanath Dham stands today as a representation of India’s enduring cultural legacy. It exemplifies the country’s ability to honor its past while embracing the future, offering devotees and visitors an unparalleled experience of faith, history, and heritage.
