Ananya Panday’s Call Me Bae Features Wedding Scene Resembling Sidharth Malhotra & Kiara Advani’s Viral Marriage Video

Bollywood actress Ananya Panday’s much-anticipated web series Call Me Bae was released on September 6, and it didn’t take long for one of its key scenes to spark conversations across social media. In the show’s first episode, Bae, played by Panday, marries Agastya, portrayed by Vihaan Samat, in a grand wedding designed to save her family from financial ruin. However, what grabbed viewers’ attention was the striking similarity between the fictional wedding scene and the real-life wedding of Bollywood stars Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani.

The marriage sequence in Call Me Bae quickly went viral, with many pointing out that it appeared to be an almost scene-by-scene reenactment of Sidharth and Kiara’s highly publicized wedding, which had captivated fans and media earlier this year. The parallels between the two weddings have become the subject of extensive online discussion, with netizens chiming in on the resemblances.

A Wedding Scene Straight Out of Reality

In Call Me Bae, Ananya Panday’s character Bae marries Agastya, the heir to a powerful business empire, in a ceremony that serves as a financial lifeline for her family. However, it wasn’t the plotline that had viewers talking—it was the wedding itself. The scene featured elements that closely mirrored the viral footage from Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s real-life wedding, from the gestures to the poses.

Bae’s hand gesture, in which she subtly copies Kiara’s now-famous bridal pose, was one of the key moments that led fans to draw comparisons. Adding to the similarity, Agastya mimics Sidharth’s signature “time-check” move during the ceremony, further fueling the sense of déjà vu. Even the way the couple bows with folded hands at the wedding altar seemed to reference Sidharth and Kiara’s gesture from their wedding, leaving viewers convinced that the scene was an intentional homage.

Internet Reactions: A Mix of Disappointment and Defense

As soon as the wedding scene went viral, social media platforms were flooded with reactions. While some fans found the comparison amusing, others were not as pleased, expressing their disappointment with the imitation. A fan commented, “I’m so sorry Anu, I’m your fan but this scks actually.*” The sentiment reflected a broader frustration among viewers who felt that the recreation lacked originality and did not capture the authenticity of the real-life wedding that had become an internet sensation.

Another user remarked, “No one can recreate this and beat Kiara,” a sentiment shared by many who believed that Sidharth and Kiara’s wedding was unique and could not be replicated on screen. The viral wedding video from their February 2023 ceremony had enchanted fans worldwide, and for some, the fictional reenactment fell short of expectations.

However, not all reactions were negative. Some viewers defended the scene, arguing that the storyline itself justified the imitation. One user commented, “People commenting ki OG is OG can’t beat the OG. I mean, duhhh!! Isn’t that what the show was supposed to be showing? The storyline ki Bella was forced to marry someone she doesn’t want to… she was made to do this, hainaa??” This perspective emphasized that the scene might have been crafted to reflect the contrast between Bae’s real emotions and the forced nature of the situation, rather than to simply mimic Sidharth and Kiara’s wedding.

The Story of Call Me Bae

Call Me Bae marks Ananya Panday’s first foray into the web series format, and she leads an impressive cast that includes Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur. The series revolves around Bae, a wealthy young woman whose life takes a dramatic turn when her family disowns her.

The series is produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra serving as producers. The show blends drama, humor, and romance as Bae navigates her new life without her family’s financial support, forcing her to discover her own identity and independence.

The Impact of Viral Comparisons

While the wedding scene may have drawn mixed reactions, it certainly generated a buzz around Call Me Bae and contributed to its visibility online. The comparisons to Sidharth and Kiara’s real-life wedding also highlight the cultural significance of Bollywood celebrity weddings, which often become the stuff of viral moments, fashion trends, and public fascination.

For Ananya Panday, the attention garnered by the show and its wedding scene underscores her rising popularity as a versatile actress capable of taking on diverse roles. The scene may have sparked debate, but it also served as a reminder of Bollywood’s influence on pop culture, where on-screen and off-screen moments often intersect in unexpected ways.
